CHOOSING THE RIGHT OFFICIANT FOR
YOUR WEDDING
Whether
you are choosing to be married by a priest, minister, Rabbi or a
Justice of the Peace, you will want to choose an officiant who feels
compatible with both you and your partner. Your marriage ceremony is
an intimate moment shared by not just the two of you, but the three of
you! You’ll want to be sure that it is someone with whom you feel
comfortable. Here are a few tips that may assist you in the selection
of your officiant:

First and foremost, you want someone who is
interested in you and your partner. Look for someone who asks
questions, someone who has an interest in knowing more about you and
your partner so that he or she can better represent you in the wedding
ceremony.
Look for someone with whom you are spiritually compatible, someone who
is willing to represent your spiritual and or religious beliefs.
You’ll want someone who is excited and enthusiastic
about performing your wedding ceremony.

Look for someone with a nice appearance and a
pleasant speaking voice. Keep in mind they’ll be in your wedding
photos or on your wedding video.
Look for someone who is reliable and prompt. It is
important to work with an officiant who returns
phone calls in a timely fashion, is on time and
keeps appointments.
And last but not least, don’t let price determine
your selection. The wedding officiant is one of the least paid of all
your wedding professional and creates the foundation for your wedding
on which all else rests. They set the tone for your day and you want
to get off to a good start. Fees for officiants range greatly, from
$100.00 to $800.00, with the average being $300.00 –$500.00. An
officiant who has worked with you to craft your ceremony has probably
spent ten to twelve hours altogether on your behalf.
The wedding ceremony is the highlight of the day.
The right officiant will be able to assist you
in creating a ceremony that will reflect the unique love between you
and your partner and the commitment you wish to make to one another in
marriage. |
