Choosing the Right Officiate

Whether you are choosing to be married by a priest, minister, Rabbi or a Justice of the Peace, you will want to choose an officiate who feels compatible with both you and your partner. Your marriage ceremony is an intimate moment shared by not just the two of you, but the three of you! You’ll want to be sure that it is someone with whom you feel comfortable. Here are a few tips that may assist you in the selection of your officiate:

First and foremost, you want someone who is interested in you and your partner. Look for someone who asks questions, someone who has an interest in knowing more about you and your partner so that he or she can better represent you in the wedding ceremony.

Look for someone with whom you are spiritually compatible, someone who is willing to represent your spiritual and or religious beliefs.

You’ll want someone who is excited and enthusiastic about performing your wedding ceremony.
Look for someone with a nice appearance and a pleasant speaking voice. Keep in mind they’ll be in your wedding photos or on your wedding video.

Look for someone who is reliable and prompt. It is important to work with an officiant who returns phone calls in a timely fashion, is on time and keeps appointments.

And last but not least, don’t let price determine your selection. Fees for officiates range greatly based on their experience and the amount of time they are willing to spend crafting your ceremony. The wedding ceremony is the highlight of the day and sets the tone and mood for the celebration to follow, so you want to be sure to get off to a good start!

The right officiate will be able to assist you in creating a ceremony that will reflect the unique love between you and your partner and the commitment you wish to make to one another in marriage.
